Xanax Questions
What is Xanax?
It is one of the benzodiazepine drugs and, as a class, it is a form of sedative that helps you relax physically and emotionally.
Does Xanax treat all anxiety and panic disorders?
Yes, the FDA has licensed Xanax for the treatment of all the disorders classified as related to anxiety or panic.
How quickly does it work?
You will see a significant improvement during the first week. However, this represents a trap. The best long-term cure for anxiety and panic disorders comes from cognitive behavioral therapy. As soon as you have begun to relax, you should start therapy. Just because you feel better using Xanax does not mean you can skip therapy. That is the fastest route to becoming dependent on Xanax.
Does it really affect libido?
Over time, a very small number of people find they lose interest in sex. Some men experience erectile dysfunction. If this happens to you, do not worry. Reducing the dosage or stopping altogether will restore your interest and physical capacity.
Does it really threaten unborn babies?
There is clear evidence that it does. You must examine your religious convictions. If you want to take Xanax, you must take contraceptive measures or risk damaging your unborn baby. Similarly, Xanax enters a mother’s milk and will threaten the health of a newly born baby.
Is Xanax really addictive?
If you respect Xanax and only take it as directed by your doctor, the risk of dependence is small. But the risk is higher if you have previously had problems of addiction with other drugs, or you abuse it, i.e. you take too high a dose over too long a period of time. This drug should only be taken short-term.
How easy is it to stop?
If you have only taken this drug for a short time, there will be no problems in stopping. But if you have ignored the advice of your doctor, you will experience withdrawal symptoms should you stop suddenly. Take advice from your doctor on how to taper the dosage to slowly wean yourself off.
